History of the Invention
The Canoe Buddy Buoy is a new innovation to an age old tradition combining safety and modern materials to an ancient concept adding another dimension of evolution to the canoeing experience.
Canoe stabilizers have been around for thousands of years among native communities from the Americas to the Polynesians, myans, islanders of the indo-pacific and Africa and many more. The concept is certainly not new, with each culture having its own particular design; its sole purpose has and will always be to prevent a canoe from capsizing.
The Canoe Buddy Buoy's design is suited to fit todays needs as opposed to its many uses of the past, instead of trappers hauling furs and trading goods, people today use the canoe for leisure and recreation purposes, from the outdoor adventure seekers to the family cottage.
This invention was intended to give the inventor peace of mind when canoeing in advanced conditions such as cold water, going into the wilderness at night on an open lake with moderate wind and wave conditions, packing extra gear with the intention of staying longer and enjoying some luxuries that may not have been safely loaded into a canoe without the assistance of a stabilizing pontoon.
The Canoe Buddy Buoy is a culmination of fifteen years of design, building and field testing while maintaining as close to a traditional canoe design as possible. As an overall design and construction concept, the inventor chose to use traditional wood material because of its strength and natural beauty.
Even though it was originally created for the purpose of providing a sense of security and overall safety the Canoe Buddy Buoy brings a lot more to the canoeing experience than just that. This simple design takes the ordinary canoe and turns it into a multi-purpose streamline floating platform fit for the experienced fisherman, the outdoorsman, the duck hunter, the camper, the parents out for a day on the lake with the kids, to swimmers, snorkelers including beginners to the sport.
